What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Cardizem (Diltiazem) is a prescription drug used to treat angina and hypertension.

Diltiazem blocks calcium ions from allowing contraction in the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. The results of the blockade are decreased oxygen demand from your heart, as well as dilation of your blood vessels.

Cautions

You should not use Diltiazem if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Hypotension (less than 90 mm Hg systolic)
  • AV block (second or third-degree) without a functioning pacemaker
  • Sick Sinus Syndrome without a functioning pacemaker
  • Known hypersensitivity to Diltiazem or any of the inactive ingredients

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks of using Diltiazem.
