You may have heard someone praise someone else by saying they thrive under pressure. And it’s good if you’re in need of someone to make sales quotas for the month or make that buzzer-beater 3 in a playoff game, but too much pressure and no reprieve isn’t good for anyone. As it turns out, long term stress and high pressure isn’t good for the human body either. Our eyes are among the most sensitive organs in the body, and glaucoma results from intraocular pressure build up in the eye(s). Fortunately there are effective glaucoma treatments with medications like Vyzulta.

Good vision is a blessing. It’s hard to say which of the 5 senses are more important than the others, but we can all agree that our sight is absolutely essential for navigating life. Age 65 is the standard age for retirement, and glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness for people over 60 in North America.

Most of the time, when the feeling of increased pressure in the eye first appears, the individual can see their doctor for a referral to an ophthalmologist. This process is usually done without delay which grants a better chance of overcoming glaucoma and avoiding the risk of blindness. If left unchecked and untreated, that pressure will likely increase and ends up affecting the optic nerve. Which in term isn’t designed to handle the change and play its critical role in being the processor between the eyeball and brain.

Vyzulta works exceptionally well as a glaucoma treatment because of its dual-ingredient action and it’s not surprising it is prescribed as often as it is. Lumigan is another good Rx glaucoma medication used for ocular hypertension. Knowing that glaucoma is common when it comes to poor health conditions for older people in North America, it’s good to know the solutions and the fact that it can be treated. Next we’ll look at the active ingredients and what they do.

Collagen Concerns

Most people will think of their skin when they hear about collagen, and it does do wonders for keeping skin healthy and youthful looking. Collagen is also useful in helping skin to heal quickly. But collagen is also in your eyes and is one of the two active ingredients in this glaucoma treatment med. Latanoprost works to reduce the stiffness of collagen in the eye so the pressure on the optic nerve is reduced and glaucoma is not as severe.

Butanediol is another ingredient and it promotes increased nitric oxide in the eye to promote more aqueous humor volume and this fluid also helps to relive pressure against the optic nerve. Developing glaucoma is at the forefront of possible complications from untreated diabetes, and there are medications for hyperglycemia that can lower blood sugar effectively and make the person less at risk of glaucoma when they have Type 2 diabetes.

Some individuals are more at risk for glaucoma than others, and we explained earlier how it is more common for people around the age of 60. It’s also more likely to affect people who are over 40 and of African descent. And there are reasons why African Americans are more at risk of glaucoma. You may not have guessed that some people have more oxygen in their eye based on their race, but it’s true.

Peripheral Going First

Peripheral vision is the sight you have to the side of your immediate and straight line of vision. It’s important for everyone, but perhaps none more so than for the quarterback of the football team. Being able to see outside the lines of direct vision can be the difference between moving the chains or being crushed into the turf by a 300+ lb defensive. And we all know how much defence loves nothing more than crushing QBs into the turf as often as possible. If he is dropping back to pass and the blitz is coming, then he’s going to need to see the whole field.

People are usually prompted to see a doctor and find a glaucoma treatment as soon as they notice they’re slowly losing their vision. And the vision which typically deteriorates first is peripheral vision. If you have concerns, then there are ways to test your peripheral vision at home. It shouldn’t be used for any type of definitive self diagnosis though, and if you really feel your vision is degenerating fast then your next conversation should be with an eye doctor and potentially around an effective glaucoma treatment.
