What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Wynzora is a topical cream that contains calcipotriene, a vitamin D analog, and betamethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid, to treat plaque psoriasis in patients who are 18 years old and older.

Directions

Wynzora comes in a tube that contains 0.005% calcipotriene and 0.064% betamethasone dipropionate. 50 mcg of calcipotriene and 0.644 mg of betamethasone dipropionate are contained in each gram of Wynzora cream.

Follow your prescription's instructions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any questions or concerns you may have about your Wynzora prescription.

Apply Wynzora cream to the affected areas of the skin one time a day for up to 8 weeks. You should not apply more than 100 grams of cream per week. Avoid getting the cream on your face, groin, or armpit. Avoid getting the cream in your mouth, eyes, or vagina. You should not apply the cream to thin skin. Avoid using occlusive dressings unless your doctor instructs you to use them.

Ingredients

Calcipotriene and betamethasone dipropionate are the active ingredients contained in Wynzora cream.

Cautions

  • Before you start using Wynzora cream, it's important to tell your doctor:
    • About all the medications you take, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal supplements
    • About your allergies
    • About your health problems
    • If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
    • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • Elevated calcium levels in the blood or urine may occur with the use of Wynzora.
  • The endocrine system can be affected by Winzora, causing reversible suppression of the hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and a reduced production of glucocorticoids during and after treatment. You may be at a greater risk if you use a potent topical corticosteroid, use over a large area of skin or to occlusive areas, use for a long period of time, have skin barrier changes, have liver impairment, or you are young.
