What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Viekira (ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir/dasabuvir) is a combination medication used to treat Hepatitis C infection. The drugs contained in Viekira disrupt the replication processes used by the virus that causes the infection. You can buy Viekira as a Viekira Pak containing:

  • Combination tablets containing ombitasvir 12.5mg/paritaprevir 75mg/ritonavir 50mg
  • Dasabuvir 250mg tablets

Store your Viekira at room temperature and keep it out of reach of children.

Directions

  • Take Viekira with a meal.
  • Your doctor will determine your dose on the type of hepatitis C virus you are infected with, as well as your liver function.
  • Use Viekira exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
    • Your doctor could add Ribavirin to your treatment.
  • Viekira Pak dosing instructions are
    • Take two ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir tablets by mouth once per day in the morning, and
    • Take one dasabuvir tablet by mouth twice daily.

  • Give your doctor a full list of medications you use. Viekira can have potentially severe interactions with some medications.
  • Do not take Viekira if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients.
  • Do not take Viekira if you have severe liver disease.
  • Viekira can increase your risk of reactivation of Hepatitis B infection. Tell your doctor if you have ever had hepatitis B.
  • Viekira can cause liver damage.
  • Viekira can interact with ethinyl estradiol. Discuss your birth control options with your doctor.
  • If you are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant, discuss the risks with your physician.
  • Tell your doctor if you have HIV. Viekira could cause treatment resistance with your HIV therapy.
