What is a Generic Drug?

Indomethacin belongs to the class of medication Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs are a type of pain medications that are non-narcotic. Indomethacin should be used for the shortest time possible and at the lowest dose to minimize the risk of side effects.

Directions

Take indomethacin exactly as directed by your physician. Example dosages are below:

  • Moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis including acute flares of chronic disease: 25 mg by mouth two to three times daily.
  • Moderate to severe ankylosing spondylitis: 25 mg by mouth two to three times daily.
  • Moderate to severe osteoarthritis: 25 mg by mouth two to three times daily.
  • Acute painful shoulder: 75-150 mg two to three times daily.
  • Acute gouty arthritis: 50 mg three times daily.
