What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Hymovis comes in a set of two 5 mL syringes. Each syringe should be used one time and contains a 3 mL dose of Hymovis. It should be injected one week apart. Hymovis should be injected into the intra-articular space of the knee.

Immediately use the contents of the syringe after opening the packaging. Discard any remaining Hymovis should be discarded.

If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Ingredients

There is 8 mg/mL of a hyaluronan in each syringe. 

Contraindications

Avoid injecting Hymovis in patients who have an allergy to hyaluronate or gram-positive bacterial proteins.

Avoid using Hymovis in patients who have a skin condition or infection at or near the site of injection. 

Cautions

  • Before you begin taking Hymovis, inform your doctor:
    • Of any allergies you have
    • About all the medications you may take, including prescription and nonprescription medications
    • Of any medical conditions you may have
    • If you are currently pregnant or plan to become pregnant
    • If you are currently breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • Administer Hymovis using a strict aseptic technique.
  • Do not use disinfectants that contain quaternary ammonium salts with the administration of Hyomvis. This can lead to the precipitation of hyaluronate. 
  • After using Hymovis, knee pain or swelling may occur.
  • Do not overexert yourself for at least 48 hours after an injection of Hymovis. 
  • Store Hymovis syringes at room temperature below 77° F (25° C). 

Side Effects

Side effects of Hymovis injections are as follows, but not limited to: infection, joint pain, joint stiffness, joint swelling, knee pain, injection site pain, injection site redness, and injection site swelling. 

Immediately tell your doctor if you develop troublesome or continuous side effects.
