What is a Generic Drug?

Alecensa (alectinib) is a medication used to treat lung cancer. It works by disrupting the cancer cells’ ability to grow, transform, and avoid death. Directions

  • Take your dose with a meal or snack.
  • Swallow your Alecensa capsules whole. Do not crush or chew them. Do not open the capsules.

  • The usual dose is:
    • Take 600mg by mouth twice daily.

Cautions

  • Do not use Alecensa if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients.
  • Do not use Alecensa if you are pregnant.
    • Females should wait one week after discontinuation of Alecensa before getting pregnant. Visit our birth control page to learn about avoiding pregnancy.
  • Male patients should use condoms during therapy and for three months after they stop using Alecensa.
  • Let your doctor know if you experience any of the following side effects. They could adjust your Alecensa treatment.
    • Symptomatic bradycardia
      • Slowed heart rate (less than 60 beats per minute)
      • Low blood pressure
      • Chest discomfort
      • Lightheadedness
      • Shortness of breath
    • Muscle pains
    • Cough
    • Fever
  • Alecensa can damage your liver. Your doctor should monitor your liver enzymes during your Alecensa treatment.
  • You could experience a decrease in kidney function while using Alecensa.
