How Weight Loss Drugs Can Interfere with Birth Control

How Weight Loss Drugs Can Interfere with Birth Control

<< Go back to blog

Despite being created as a blood sugar control medication, Ozempic is wholly and completely connected to weight loss interest nowadays and to the extent that some will be unaware that it is a Type 2 diabetes med even. Ozempic has helped plenty of people slim down when nothing else seemed to work, but apparently Ozempic has also been helping women have children. And this has nothing to do with the fact that slimmer women are more likely to be approached by men who are interested in starting a family. Yes, Ozempic babies are a thing.

Did you know you can buy Ozempic from Canada and save upto 80% compared to local pharmacies in USA? Check our prices and availability now.

So, what is the connection between Ozempic and fertility then? Like others, Semaglutide – the active ingredient in Ozempic - is a GLP-1 agonist drug and one of the realities with GLP-1 drugs is that they can interfere with birth control medication absorption. That is related to the same gastric emptying that promotes weight loss with Semaglutide. Medications are only properly absorbed when the digestive process is not impaired. So that is the first of 2 parts of why Ozempic babies are arriving in increasing numbers.

It is an interesting phenomenon for sure, and one that most people would never have assumed to be possible. But let us keep in mind that women on birth control will not be pleased to find they have become pregnant because of using Ozempic to lose weight. Oppositely, women who have struggled with infertility will be over the moon happy if they become pregnant while using Ozempic. Ozempic babies may well be the equivalent of miracle babies for these women.

Function Restoration

In these instances, a woman may become pregnant because of Ozempic due to the way that losing weight improves metabolic health, and this promotes a restoration of ovarian function. How this relates to Ozempic babies is that women with high BMI (body mass index) numbers don’t just have difficulty getting into pants. They also don’t ovulate optimally, and this will be worsened if they have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). The term for this connection is anovulatory, but when they start on Ozempic that can change fast.

The women start to have more regular menses and ovulation, and with this essential part of the reproductive process restored it may be clear that pathway for the women to become pregnant because of Ozempic despite all their struggles to accomplish that. It is equal parts and nice that a medication of any sort can make that happen for them. This is most of what needs to be said about the Ozempic baby phenomenon. There are medicinal workings to it for sure, and in the event of conception occurring you are going to have to one of two women; the one dismayed that her birth control failed, or the one who is thrilled that she is finally going to become a mother.

Ozempic already has weight loss as an off-label use and that is far and away the reason it is the most talked-about Rx drug in the world these days. Perhaps it may also develop another one when women get prescriptions for Ozempic as part of an infertility treatment too. Especially if the Ozempic babies start arriving in even greater numbers. Will be interesting to see how this goes.
