5 New Hair Loss Cure Options

New Hair Loss Cure Options

According to Static Brain, 56 million men and women are experiencing hair loss. The receding hairline and thinning of the hair is one of the most common signs of hair loss. Luckily there are some hair loss cure options that will help you combat this issue.

Once hair loss begins it will eventually meet at the top and leave a horseshoe shaped ring around the head. This is a common image of a man who has lost his hair at an older age.

Hair Loss Cure Statistics

When does this happen?

It starts as early as 25 years old.

40% of men who experience hair loss will have noticeable hair loss by the age of 35. At the age of 60, this number increases to 65% for men. At the age of 80, 70% of people will notice it hair loss.

Women do not notice hair loss as quickly as men. The total number of women who experience hair loss is 21 million in the United States. Women around the age of 60 normally notice hair loss.

Why Look For A Hair Loss Cure?

Americans tend to look for a hair loss cure as quickly as they discover it.

People feel unattractive or lose self-esteem. This is because people only age and don't get younger.

No new drugs have been approved by the FDA since 1997.

Everybody is trying to find a hair loss cure and is willing to try some strange things to conquer it.

People have suggested many things over the past years to combat hair loss.

The list includes:

  • coconut oils to strength hair
  • increasing your vitamin C diet
  • squeezing eggs/eggs whites and olive mixture on top of your scalp

Do you really want to do this?

No.

Let's try to protect the hair you got left, without the home remedies.

1. Quorum Sensing

What exactly is Quorum Sensing and how can it help me as a hair loss cure?

Well, Quorum Sensing is a decision-making process in which if certain criteria is met it can possibly work on certain section of the population.

Essentially, the molecules are released by a signal which allows for more molecules to grow.

This means that by plucking away some hair it can help generate more hair. Seems impossible, but the data and science is there to back it up. Don't be fooled, though, it needs to be very specific hair.

If not enough hair is pulled, then it will not send a proper response to the other hair follicles.

This regeneration is a process which is all or nothing. It primarily depends on the signal that produces by the fraction of hair being plucked. This is where it gets its name ¨C Quorum Sensing.

It works by using the repair and regeneration process. The repair process beings once the hair is plucked. The sensing system can recognize cell injury and use the immune response to see what the damage is. It then allows a full-scale regenerate response that allows full-scale hair follicles to appear.

The only problem is that it has only been tested on mice and could take some time to develop. It also needs to be done correctly and the ideal number of hair follicles needs to be plucked.

It is an amazing advancement in science but the wait is at least 10 years.

2. Hair-Follicle Engineering

There might be a hair loss cure of not having to pluck out hair completely (Quorum Sensing) or reallocating it by current hair transplant surgeries.

Traditional transplant surgeries can cost upwards of $10,000 for a receding hairline. This surgery does not add any additional hair follicles but rather moves them around.

The hair-follicle engineering is a little different. It allows a person to take follicles and clone them.

The term cloning refers to a technique where genes are inserted into a cell. It allows the daughter cells to have the same gene. A gene is a unique DNA code for a particular protein. This allows for proper function without our particular body.

Once the daughter cell can produce the same protein, it allows the cell to be cloned.

For instance, if you wanted to have 100,000 hair follicles (the number men are born with), all you would need to do is have 100 remaining follicles.

That sounds interesting but does it actually work?

Yeah, it really does ¨C this new hair loss option has been successfully tested by a Japanese group. They were successful in cloning the hair follicles.

The only problem is that if you are bald already or do not have enough hair follicles, this treatment might not be for you.

The wait for this type of engineering is about 5 - 8 years away.

3. Fibroblast Growth Factor

The name sounds just as amusing as the technology. The FGF9 or known as fibroblast growth factor 9, is a substance that allows for new follicles to grow.

There are no products or solutions on the market that allow for hair regrowth. Only products like minoxidil help reduce further hair loss.

So what makes FGF9 so special?

Well, a scientist has found a link between the ability to regrow hair and the immune system. The gamma delta (¦Ã¦Ä) immune T cell, FGT9, produces a protein that increases hair follicle growth.

This was tested on mice that allowed for an increase in hair growth. Once the substance was stopped, the hair growth stopped as well.

This is done by wounding the scalp and treating it with the substance - fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9).

The only problem is that humans do not produce that much FGF9 naturally. A solution to this will be to apply a drug with the synthetic FGF9 to enhance the effectiveness.

The wait for this solution is about 8 years, but that hasn't stopped the startup company, Follica (co-founder, Dr. Costsarelis). They are exploring a way to make this solution feasible for men.

4. Stem Cells

The potential of having stem cells grow human hair has been increasing in popularity over the last few years. This is because there is no need for hair follicles to clone or copy, rather grown in a lab.

This method has had many advances over the years. Researchers have published findings that noted that their ¡°stem cell method provide[d] an unlimited source of cells from the patient for transplantation and isn't' limited by the availability of existing hair follicles.¡±

The type of human cell that these researchers are deprived of is the pluripotent stem cells. These cells are taken from any tissue and can be genetically modified. The cells behave like embryonic stem cells which make them pluripotent ¨C meaning the ability to form any adult cell types.

This could help the millions of people who are losing hair every day.

Did you know the average person loses 100 hair follicles a day?

Since these hair follicles are being produced in labs, unfortunately, the wait is still longer than you think.

The only problem to this is that when hair follicle stem cells are grown in the lab, they do not work or have the same characteristics/makeup when placed into the scalp.

It will take about 5 years to complete the solution and be able to take advantage of hair follicle stem cells that are grown in a lab. The final step is figuring out how to properly place the hair follicles back into the scalp.

5. JAK Inhibitors

JAK Inhibitors are used for many different reasons. The group, Janus kinases, is found in hematopoietic cells. The markup of these cells consists of JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2).

Healthy hair grows in cycles. This is why the hair hangs out for a bit and then dies and falls out. When this pattern occurs and hair falls out, the follicle goes temporarily dormant. A new follicle will replace itself.

This cycle should be continuous and never stop but that isn't always the case. When men are balding, the hair that returns to the follicle becomes thinner and thinner until no hair is apparent.

The peach fuzz looking hair might be visible or no hair at all. The hair isn't fully gone, it just became imperceptible.

JAK inhibitors work by targeting inflammatory cell pathways that stimulate follicles back into growth cycles.

Two JAK inhibitors have already been approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is because this drug serves for other purposes.

It has been used in clinical trials for alopecia areata and plaque psoriasis. Both of which are an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.

The study suggests that when the JAK inhibitors were applied to the skin of mice, it stopped the immune attack and noticed that mice grew more hair. This was applied to the skin systemically.

If you do not want to wait years for a solution, contact a health professional and ask if Propecia is right for you.

Propecia

Propecia, also known as Finasteride (a medical ingredient), is an alternative to all those new hair loss cure options. It is a Type II 5a-reducastae inhibition which is a treatment for male hair loss.

It is used to treat patients with mild to moderate hair loss in anterior mid-scalp and vertex. It works by blocking the Type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which is involved in the regulation of hair follicles.

It also helps a major cause of male pattern hair loss which is dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by lowering the levels in the scalp.

Note: Propecia can only be used by men and is not intended to be used by women or children.

Propecia must be taken orally every day (around the same time) to be most effective. Results are expected to be noticeable within a three month period.

This solution is meant to be long-term and can be started at a young age.

Conclusion

The new hair loss cure options are still away to go and more testing is needed to be done before people can use these solutions.

Just to recap, the 5 new hair loss cure options were quorum sensing, hair-follicle engineering, fibroblast growth factor, stem cells, and JAK inhibitors.

But most men do not want to wait. If hair is falling out now, a solution must be present.

This is why Propecia might be a good fit for you. It is the only drug that was FDA approved for male pattern baldness since 1997.

Don't wait till all your hair follicles are gone.

Remember, a person loses 100 hair follicles each day, time is running out.
