Yaz Plus is available in tablets containing 3 mg of drospirenone, 0.02 mg of ethinyl estradiol, and 0.451 mg of levomefolate calcium.

The recommended usage involves taking one pill every day at the same time, with some liquid as needed. The 28-pill pack contains 24 active and 4 inactive pills. When the pack is empty, start a new pack the very next day whether or not a menstrual period has occurred or is still in progress.

Contraindications

Discuss your medical history with your doctor. Do not take Yaz Plus if you have a history of blood clots, heart attack, stroke, or if you're at a high risk of these conditions. You should also avoid Yaz Plus if you have migraines, liver disease or tumor, cancer due to sex hormones, severe kidney problems, or unexplained vaginal bleeding. Do not take Yaz Plus if you are pregnant or allergic to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate calcium, or any of the other ingredients in Yaz Plus.

Cautions

  • Before you start taking Yaz Plus, inform your doctor: 
    • About any medications you take, particularly drugs for seizures, tuberculosis, HIV, or Hepatitis C, as they can affect Yaz Plus efficacy. 
    • About any medical conditions you have, including diabetes, hypertension, migraine, or depression. 
    • If you are going to have surgery or will be on bed rest. 
    • If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Yaz Plus should not be used during pregnancy. 
    • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Small amounts of Yaz Plus may pass into breast milk. 
  • Yaz Plus may increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack, especially if you smoke and are older than 35. 
  • Yaz Plus may cause brown, blotchy spots on your skin. Limit your exposure to the sun or ultraviolet light. 
  • Yaz Plus can increase your blood potassium levels. Contact your doctor if you experience irregular heartbeats or muscle weakness. 
  • Yaz Plus can cause depressive mood and mood swings. If you have a history of depression, closely monitor your condition while taking Yaz Plus.
