What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Ximino (Minocycline Hydrochloride) is a medication belonging to the tetracycline antibiotic class. Ximino is used to treat pimples and red bumps associated with moderate to severe acne vulgaris in people who are 12 years old and older.

Ximino is available in extended-release capsules of 45-mg, 90-mg, and 135-mg strengths.

The recommended dose is 1 mg per kg body weight by mouth once daily for 12 weeks. Ximino Extended-Release Capsules can be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole. 

Ingredients

Minocycline hydrochloride is the active ingredient in Ximino.

Contraindications

Talk to your doctor about any allergy you may have. You should not take Ximino if you are allergic to tetracycline antibiotics or any of the ingredients in Ximino.

Cautions

  • Before you start taking Ximino, inform your doctor:
    • About any medications you take, including birth control pills, blood thinners, penicillins, antacids, or isotretinoins
    • About any medical conditions you have, especially diarrhea, kidney problems, liver problems, or vision problems
    • If you will be having surgery with general anesthesia
    • If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Ximino can harm an unborn baby.
    • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Ximino can pass into your breastmilk and cause harm to your baby
  • Permanent teeth discoloration can occur with the use of Ximino during tooth development.
  • An infection of the intestine can occur with the use of Ximino. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a fever, cramps, watery diarrhea, recurring diarrhea, or blood in your stools. The infection can develop 2 or more months after you stop taking Ximino.
  • Severe liver problems can occur with the use of Ximino. Stop taking Ximino and call your doctor immediately if you have appetite loss, confusion, diarrhea, tiredness, yellowing of your skin or eyes, sleepiness, or bleeding from an unexplained cause.
  • Central nervous system effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or vertigo can occur with the use of Ximino. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience recurring headaches or vision problems.
  • Benign intracranial hypertension can occur with the use of Ximino, causing increased fluid pressure and swelling around the brain. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience unusual headaches, blurry vision, or vision loss.
  • Immune system reactions can occur with the use of Ximino. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a fever, rash, body weakness, or pain in your joints.
  • Serious allergic reactions can occur with the use of Ximino. Seek emergency care right away if you experience trouble breathing, a rash or hives, sores in your mouth, skin blisters or peeling, swelling of your face, eyes, lips, tongue, or throat, blood in your urine, yellow of your skin or eyes, fever, dark urine, pain on the right side of your stomach, chest pain, abnormal heart beats, swelling in your legs, ankles, and feet, or darkening of your eyes, gums, nails, scars, skin, and teeth.
  • Ximino can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight and light from sunlamps and tanning beds. 
    • Protect your skin from sun exposure with loose-fitting clothes and sunscreen
  • You should not drive or operate machinery until you know how you tolerate Ximino.

Side Effects

Dizziness, itching, vertigo, headache, and tiredness are the most common side effects of Ximino. Tell your doctor if you experience any other side effects that are bothersome or persistent.
