Description

Voltaren Emulgel is a topical gel containing diclofenac diethylamine, an active substance that belongs to the category of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It’s used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation directly at the source. When applied to the skin, the gel targets sore or injured areas, providing relief from symptoms associated with muscle or joint injuries like sprains, strains, or sports injuries. It's often used as part of a broader pain management plan.

Directions

When using Voltaren Emulgel, it's important to apply the gel as directed to achieve the best results. Start with a small amount, around the size of a cherry, and massage it gently into the skin over the affected area. Repeat the application twice daily as needed in the morning and evening, without exceeding the maximum limit stated in the product instructions.

Ensure that you do not cover the treated area with bandages or dressings after applying the gel; let it air dry to avoid irritation. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after each use, unless your hands are the area being treated.

Ingredients

Diclofenac is the active ingredient in Voltaren Emulgel.

Contraindications

Avoid taking or using Voltaren Emulgel if any of the following apply:

• Known allergy to diclofenac or any other component of the gel.
• Those who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Those currently taking NSAIDs or other products with diclofenac.
• Pregnant women, especially during the third trimester, due to the potential for harm to the developing fetus.
• Individuals scheduled for or recovering from cardiac surgery, particularly coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Cautions

• Before using Voltaren Emulgel, ensure you provide your healthcare provider with the following information:
• Existing health conditions
• Known allergies
• A list of all the medications you are currently taking
• Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status

• Before using Voltaren, talk to your healthcare professional if you have stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal issues, or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
• Avoid using this gel if you're under 18 years old.
• Do not apply Voltaren on cuts, open wounds, or areas of skin affected by rash or eczema. Stop using it if you develop a rash after application.
• Only use the gel as directed, avoiding excessive or prolonged use. Do not cover treated skin with air-tight or occlusive dressings.
• Be cautious as the gel is flammable—avoid smoking or being near open flames after application.
• Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the gel, and avoid contact with your eyes. If contact occurs, rinse your eyes with clean water and consult a healthcare provider.
• Use the gel only externally. It should not be used inside the mouth, or applied to vaginal or anal areas, and should not be ingested.

Side Effects

Using Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength may cause mild itching, skin redness, or slight irritation at the application site. These effects are usually mild, temporary, and not harmful. If these reactions are concerning or persist, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

Some side effects, although rare, can be serious and require immediate medical attention:

• Skin rash that includes blisters or resembles hives.
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which could indicate a severe allergic reaction.
• Experiencing wheezing, shortness of breath, or a feeling of tightness in the chest, which could suggest an asthma attack.
• Increased sensitivity to the sun, leading to sunburn with itching, swelling, and blistering.
