What is a Generic Drug?

Cautions

  • Before you start taking vitamin B12, tell your doctor:

    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Low potassium levels and sudden death in patients with vitamin B12-deficient megaloblastic anemia may be caused by intake of too much vitamin B12.
  • Treatment of severe vitamin B12 megaloblastic anemia may cause high platelet levels.
  • Pernicious anemia should not be treated with oral and nasal vitamin B12 until symptoms have resolved.
  • Cyanocobalamin products should be avoided in patients with Leber’s optic atrophy; alternative therapy should be considered. Treatment options should be discussed between patients and their doctor.
