What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Tri-Luma Cream uses: Tri-Luma (fluocinolone acetonide, hydroquinone, and tretinoin) cream, 0.01%/4%/0.05% is a medication that is applied topically to the skin to treat melasma, or brown patches on the face.

Directions

Tri-Luma Cream should be used as instructed by your doctor. Any questions or concerns about the medication may be referred to your doctor or pharmacist.

Recommended dosing: Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) once daily, 30 minutes or more before bedtime. After using the cream, wash your hands thoroughly.

Do not go out in the sun, and be sure to wear sunscreen of an SPF of 30 or greater and protective clothing during the day to protect your skin.

Ingredients

Fluocinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid), hydroquinone (a melanin synthesis inhibitor), and tretinoin (a retinoid) are the active ingredients in Tri-Luma Cream.

Butylated hydroxytoluene, cetyl alcohol, citric acid anhydrous, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, magnesium aluminum silicate, methyl gluceth-10, methylparaben, PEG-100 stearate, propylparaben, purified water, sodium metabisulfite, stearic acid, and stearyl alcohol are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

Avoid using Tri-Luma Cream if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients.

Cautions

  • Before you begin treatment with Tri-Luma Cream, tell your doctor about:
    • All the medications you use; these include any lotions, creams, and ointments you are using
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy status
    • Your breastfeeding status
  • Tri-Luma Cream contains sodium metabisulfite. Some people who are susceptible may develop allergic reactions, including anaphylactic symptoms and severe asthmatic episodes. If you have difficulty breathing or if you develop a rash, swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, or any other symptoms of an allergic reaction, immediately seek emergency care.
  • The hydroquinone component in Tri-Luma Cream may cause blue-black darkening of the skin. Stop using Tri-Luma Cream and contact your doctor right away if this occurs.
  • The fluocinolone acetonide component of Tri-Luma Cream may cause reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression if absorbed by the body. Cushing’s syndrome, high blood glucose, and glucose in the urine can occur.
  • Skin irritation, reddening, peeling, burning, dryness, and itching at the application site can occur with Tri-Luma Cream. If you develop any of these effects, notify your doctor right away. Avoid using soaps, cleansers, and cosmetics that are medicated, abrasive, drying, or highly concentrated with alcohol and astringents.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Tri-Luma Cream include skin redness, burning, peeling, dryness, and itching. These are not all the side effects that can occur. Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or won't go away.
