What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.


Tri Lo Milli is a combination hormonal birth control medication that prevents pregnancy. It works by preventing the egg from being released during a woman's menstrual cycle, plus making vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from attaching and then passing out of the body. Tri Lo Milli birth control can also make periods less painful for women and decrease the risk of ovarian cysts.


Take one active pill once daily for 21 days in a row. Then take an inactive pill once daily for 7 days in a row after you have taken the last active pill unless. The woman should have her period during the fourth week of the cycle.

After you have taken the last inactive tablet in the pack or gone 7 days without taking an active tablet, beginning taking a new pack the next day.


The active ingredients in Tri Lo Milli are Progestin and Estrogen.


Tell your doctor if you have any history of blood clots or blood clotting disorders, high blood pressure, abnormal breast exams, cancer, high cholesterol or triglyceride (blood fat) levels, depression, diabetes, family or personal history of angioedema, gallbladder problems, severe headaches or migraines, heart problems, jaundice, kidney disease, liver disease, stroke, edema, thyroid problems, diabetes, or unexplained vaginal bleeding before starting on Tri Lo Milli.

Medication may interfere with some laboratory tests causing false test results.


There is the possibility of drug interactions between Tri Lo Milli and some Rx medications including; aromatase inhibitors like anastrozole and exemestane, ospemifene, tamoxifen, tizanidine, tranexamic acid, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, ritonavir, dasabuvir, carbamazepine, felbamate, phenytoin, primidone, topiramate, nelfinavir, and nevirapine. There is also an interaction risk with the OTC herbal supplement St. John’s Wort.

Side Effects

Tri Lo Milli side effects are uncommon, but some women may experience nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, swelling of the ankles or feet, fluid retention, weight gain, or vaginal bleeding between periods or missed / irregular periods.
