What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Description

Tivicay is a prescription medication used for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection, which is the infection that can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Tivicay is for use in patients 12 years of age and older and at least 40 kg.

Tivicay is an integrase inhibitor, which means it binds to the protein HIV integrase and blocks the replication of viral DNA. Tivicay is used as part of a combination of drugs for the treatment and suppression of HIV.

Take Tivicay exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dosage is 50 mg by mouth one to two times daily.

Cautions

Do not take this drug if you are taking a medication called dofetilide (Tikosyn).

Take Tivicay 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids, laxatives, and other drugs that affect digestion.
