What is a Generic Drug?

Swallow Tecfidera whole with or without food. The capsule cannot be crushed, chewed, or opened.

The starting dose is 120 mg by mouth twice daily for seven days and should be increased to 240 mg twice daily after that. 


The name of Tecfidera generic is Dimethyl Fumarate, which is the active ingredient.

  • Monomethyl Fumarate

Even though Tecfidera does not have many drug-drug interactions, tell your doctor and pharmacist about all other medications you are taking including prescription, over-the-counter, and supplements.


Tell your doctor if you have any long-term chronic conditions like herpes zoster or tuberculosis. Tecfidera can cause the reactivation of certain diseases.

The dosage may need to be adjusted if you experience severe toxicity to Tecfidera.

Your doctor will monitor several blood tests before and during treatment with this medication.
