Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Supemtek is a quadrivalent recombinant influenza vaccine indicated for active immunization to prevent influenza in adults aged 18 years and older. Unlike traditional egg-based influenza vaccines, Supemtek is manufactured using recombinant DNA technology in an insect cell line, allowing for faster production and avoiding mutations associated with egg adaptation. It contains hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from four influenza virus strains (two A subtypes and two B lineages), as recommended annually by the World Health Organization. Supemtek offers an alternative for individuals with egg allergies and has shown favorable immunogenicity and safety in clinical trials.

Supemtek is administered as a single 0.5 mL intramuscular injection, preferably in the deltoid muscle. It should be given annually, ideally before the start of influenza season. Shake the vial gently before use. Do not mix with other vaccines in the same syringe. Supemtek may be co-administered with other vaccines at different injection sites, according to local immunization guidelines. Vaccination should be postponed in individuals with moderate to severe acute illness until recovery.
Each 0.5 mL dose of Supemtek contains:
45 micrograms of recombinant hemagglutinin (rHA) from each of the four influenza virus strains (180 µg total)
Other ingredients include:
Sodium chloride, polysorbate 20, phosphate buffers, and water for injection
Supemtek is preservative-free and does not contain egg proteins, antibiotics, or latex.
Supemtek is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine
A history of severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to a previous dose of any influenza vaccine
Immunization may not protect all recipients, particularly those with immunosuppressive conditions. Use caution in patients with bleeding disorders or those receiving anticoagulant therapy, due to the risk of injection-site hematoma. As with any vaccine, appropriate medical treatment and supervision should be available in the event of an anaphylactic reaction. Individuals should be monitored briefly after vaccination. Supemtek is not approved for use in individuals under 18 years of age.
Common and potential side effects include:
Injection site pain, redness, or swelling
Fatigue
Headache
Myalgia or arthralgia
Nausea
Fever or chills
Rare: hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis
