SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy was the first hyaluronan treatment approved for the relief of osteoarthritis (OA) pain in 1987 in Japan. Since 1987, over 143 million injections of SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy have been sold worldwide. SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy is the most prescribed Joint Fluid Therapy in the world. In clinical studies, SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy has been shown to be effective in the treatment of knee OA pain. In a 1996 study, SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy produced clinically significant results which were described by the author as the "equivalent of a doubled maximum walking distance combined with a complete loss of night pain." SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy has a greater amount of active ingredient per treatment series than other Joint Fluid Therapies.
Your doctor will give you an injection of SUPARTZ (25mg/2.5rnL) into your knee once a week for 5 weeks (a total of 5 injections). Your doctor may recommend a local anesthetic to reduce the possible discomfort associated with an injection. The goal of SUPARTZ is the relief of pain. You may experience some pain relief before you receive the full series of 5 injections. However, studies suggest that most patients experiencing relief do so after the full series of 5 injections. The actual amount and duration of pain relief varies from patient to patient. Immediately after you have the injection and for the next 48 hours, you may need to avoid activities such as jogging, tennis, heavy lifting or standing on your feet for a long time. All Injections must be injected by a practitioner who has medical and specialist training. The practitioner must be medically qualified.
Each 2.5mL prefilled syringe of SUPARTZ contains:
Sodium Hyaluronate 25.0mg
Sodium Chloride 21.25mg
Diabasic Sodium
Phosphate Dodecahydrate 1.343mg
Water for Injection q.s.
Do not use SUPARTZ if the package is opened or damaged. Store in the original packaging below 25° C. DO NOT FREEZE. Do not use after expiration date indicated on package. Shelf life is 42 months. Take care to remove the tip cap of the syringe and needle aseptically. Inject SUPARTZ into the joint through a 22-23 gauge needle. Inject the full 2.4mL in one knee only. If treatment is bilateral, a separate syringe should be used for each knee. The prefilled syringe is intended for single use. The content of the syringe must be used immediately once the container has been opened. Discard any unused SUPARTZ.
