What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Your healthcare provider may prescribe Sumadan for the treatment of acne. Acne is most common in young adults and teenagers. Symptoms include inflamed blackheads, pus-filled pimples, and large, red, tender bumps. Symptoms can range from mild to severe.

This topical gel combines two different medications: sulfacetamide and sulfur. They have different mechanisms of action and work together to treat acne and enhance the overall skin condition.

Sulfacetamide, an antibacterial agent in Sumadan, effectively inhibits the proliferation of acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Complementing this action, sulfur exhibits antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, reducing acne-associated redness and inflammation.

Sumadan can treat the symptoms of acne and reduce symptoms of pain, tenderness, and redness. The time it may take for the medication to work will vary from person to person.

Directions

Apply Sumadan to the affected area one to two times daily. Clean and rinse the affected area before and gently pat it dry.

During application, the Sumdan gel should be thinly applied while avoiding contact with the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes, and rinse promptly with water if accidental contact occurs.

Do not use it for longer than prescribed by your doctor.

Ingredients

Sumadan combines sulfacetamide sodium (10%) and sulfur (5%) as its active ingredients. These components work synergistically to combat acne, while the gel formulation incorporates additional inactive ingredients to optimize stability and efficacy.
