Silvadene Cream 1% Uses:

Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) 1% is a topical cream that is used to prevent and treat wound sepsis in patients who suffer from second- and third-degree burns.

Directions

Silvadene Cream 1% should be used as your doctor has prescribed. You can speak with your doctor or pharmacist should you have any questions or concerns.

The cream should be applied one to two times a day. It should be about 1/16 inch thick.

Information concerning the duration of treatment will be provided to you by your doctor.

Ingredients

The active ingredient contained in Silvadene Cream 1% is silver sulfadiazine.

Contraindications

Avoid using the cream if you have an allergy to silver sulfadiazine or any of its other ingredients.

Pregnant women who are close to or at term, premature infants, or newborns should not use Silvadene Cream 1%.

Cautions

  • Before you start treatment with Silvadene Cream 1% for burns, talk to your doctor about:
    • All medications you use, including other topicals
    • Any allergies you may have
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy status or plans to become pregnant
    • Your breastfeeding status or plans to breastfeed
  • Body surface area and tissue damage determines the absorption of Silvadene Cream 1%.
  • If you have an allergy to sulfonamides, you may experience a reaction to Silvadene Cream 1%.
  • Fungal proliferation may become present in and below the dead tissue.
  • Silvadene Cream 1% use may need to be avoided by patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency due to the risk of hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells).
  • Patients who suffer from liver and kidney problems may need to stop using Silvadene Cream 1%.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes.

Silvadene Cream 1% side effects that may occur include abnormal white blood cell counts, skin breakdown, skin discoloration, burning, and rash. Immediately talk to your doctor if you experience any concerning or persistent side effects.
