What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Serophene (clomiphene citrate) is prescribed to women who desire pregnancy but have ovulatory dysfunction.

Serophene is available in 50 mg oral tablets.

Directions

Serophene should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any questions or concerns you have about the medication.

Recommended Serophene dosage: one tablet by mouth one time a day for 5 days. Your doctor may decide to increase your dose if you do not respond to the 50 mg dose. Your doctor will instruct you on how much you should take and how long you should take Serophene.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in each Serophene tablet is clomiphene citrate.

Lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and sodium starch glycolate type A potato are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

Avoid taking Serophene if you:

  • have an allergy to any of its ingredients
  • Are pregnant
  • Have liver disease
  • Have abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Have ovarian cysts
  • Have uncontrolled thyroid problems, adrenal dysfunction, or an intracranial lesion

Cautions

  • Before you start taking Serophene, talk to your doctor about:
    • All the medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy status
    • Your breastfeeding status
  • Serophene can cause vision problems such as blurry vision, spots, or flashing.
  • Serophene can cause ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome or ovarian enlargement. Immediately notify your doctor of any pain in your stomach or pelvis, weight gain, discomfort, or swelling.
  • The chance of multiple pregnancy is increased in women who take Serophene.
  • Serophene can cause pregnancy wastage and birth anomalies.

Side Effects

Ovarian enlargement, hot flashes, stomach pain, pelvic pain, bloating, swelling, nausea, vomiting, breast discomfort, vision problems, headache, and abnormal uterine bleeding are possible side effects of Serophene. If you have side effects that are bothersome or persistent, tell your doctor right away.
