What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Savaysa is a prescription medication used for preventing strokes from atrial fibrillation. It is also a DVT medication for deep vein thrombosis treatment to prevent blood clots in the leg or used to treat a pulmonary embolism in the lungs. For DVT or embolism Savaysa will be preceded with use of a blood thinner before beginning on the medication. Take one 60 mg tablet orally one time each day for atrial fibrillation treatment.

Savaysa may cause you to bruise and bleed easier. Discuss with your doctor if you are prone to easy bruising and bleeding before taking this medication.

Savaysa will not be suitable for people with mechanical heart valves or those who have moderate-to-severe narrowing (stenosis) of their mitral valve. This medication is also not suitable for anyone with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) who have a history of blood clots.

Do not take Savaysa is you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant unless your doctor advises you to do so.


There is the possibility of drug interactions between Savaysa and aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), blood thinners like Warfarin, Heparin, or other medicines to prevent or treat blood clots, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) which are common among antidepressant and mood regulation medications.

Always be sure to tell your doctor of all medications you are currently taking when you have your consultation to discuss blood clot and stroke prevention medication.

Side Effects

Side effects from Savaysa are uncommon, but some people may experience burning sensation, skin redness or swelling, itching or rash.

Any severe side effects or worsening ones should cause you to stop use and visit your doctor again for other stroke from atrial fibrillation prevention options.
