Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
S-Adenosyl 225 is a veterinary nutritional supplement formulated for dogs and cats to support liver health and function. It contains S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a compound that contributes to hepatic detoxification, antioxidant defense, and cell membrane stabilization. SAMe is a naturally occurring molecule involved in methylation and transsulfuration pathways, which are critical to the synthesis of glutathione—a key antioxidant in the liver. S-Adenosyl 225 is often used as part of a multimodal approach in managing liver disease, including hepatocellular damage, cholestasis, and conditions associated with elevated liver enzymes.

S-Adenosyl 225 is administered orally on an empty stomach, ideally at least one hour before feeding. The tablet should be given whole to protect its enteric coating and ensure proper absorption in the small intestine. Dosage is generally based on body weight and veterinarian recommendations. For dogs:
Medium to large dogs (typically 25–50 kg): 1 tablet once daily
Always follow the veterinarian’s prescribed dosing schedule and reassess based on liver function test results and clinical response.
Each enteric-coated tablet of S-Adenosyl 225 contains:
S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) 225 mg
Inactive ingredients may include:
Mannitol, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, silica, and a protective enteric coating to ensure stability and targeted release
The formulation may also contain stabilizers or antioxidants depending on manufacturer specifications.
S-Adenosyl 225 is contraindicated in:
Animals with known hypersensitivity to SAMe or any tablet component
Pets that cannot safely swallow tablets whole (due to risk of impaired absorption)
While generally safe, S-Adenosyl 225 should be used with caution in pets with severe gastrointestinal disease or those on medications that affect serotonin levels (e.g., SSRIs or MAO inhibitors), as there is a theoretical risk of serotonin syndrome. This product is a nutraceutical, not a drug, and should not be used as a sole treatment for severe liver disease. Regular monitoring of liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP) and overall clinical response is recommended. Safety in pregnant or lactating animals has not been thoroughly established.
S-Adenosyl 225 is typically well tolerated. Potential side effects may include:
Mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea)
Inappetence or drooling (especially if not administered on an empty stomach)
Rare: allergic reaction or behavioral changes
