What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Take Robaxin as directed by your doctor. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any questions or concerns you have.

Robaxin dosage:

Recommended initial dose: 500 mg tablets:

3 tablets by mouth four times a day for the first 48 to 72 hours of treatment

Maintenance dose: 500 mg tablets:

2 tablets by mouth four times a day

Recommended initial dose: 750 mg tablets:

2 tablets by mouth four times a day for the first 48 to 72 hours of treatment

Maintenance dose: 750 mg tablets:

1 tablet by mouth every 4 hours or 2 tablets by mouth three times a day

Ingredients

Methocarbamol, USP, is the active ingredient in Robaxin.

Contraindications

Patients who have an allergy to methocarbamol or to any of the tablet's ingredients should avoid Robaxin. 

Cautions

  • Before you start taking Robaxin, tell your doctor about:
    • All the medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your medical history and current health problems
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Depression of the central nervous system (CNS) can occur with Robaxin treatment. Use caution when taking methocarbamol with alcohol or other CNS-depressing medications.
  • Robaxin may cause fetal harm; therefore, pregnant women should not take Robaxin. 
  • Robaxin may affect mental and/or physical abilities; therefore, do not drive or operate machinery until you know how you are affected by the medication.
  • Patients younger than 16 years of age should not take Robaxin.

Side Effects

Anaphylaxis, swelling, fever, headache, slow heart rate, flushing, low blood pressure, fainting, thrombophlebitis, indigestion, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, nausea, vomiting, memory problems, confusion, vision problems, dizziness, drowsiness, sleep problems, muscle incoordination, sedation, seizures, nasal congestion, metallic taste, itching, rash, and hives are some Robaxin medication side effects. However, if you experience side effects that bother you or won't go away, contact your doctor immediately.
