Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Rimadyl is a medication that is used to relieve pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis in dogs and to manage pain after soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs. It is used by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
Rimadyl for dogs comes in caplets and chewable tablets for oral use.
The information that comes with your dog's Rimadyl prescription should be carefully read. The Rimadyl dosage is based on the dog's weight with the recommended dose being 2 mg per pound of body weight one time a day or 1 mg per pound of body weight two times a day. Your veterinarian will tell you how much Rimadyl you should give your dog.
Carprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is the active ingredient in Rimadyl.
If your dog is allergic to carprofen, do not give your dog the medication.
Decreased appetite; vomiting; diarrhea; dark and tarry stools; increased water consumption; increased urination; pale gums due to anemia; yellowing of the gums, skin, or whites of the eyes; tiredness; seizures; and behavioral changes are Rimadyl side effects. If your dog has side effects that worry you or won't go away, call your veterinarian right away.
