Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Requip XL (Ropinirole) is a medicine used to help people with Parkinson’s disease, which can cause problems like shaking, stiff muscles, and trouble moving. This medicine works by helping to balance a chemical in the brain called dopamine, which people with Parkinson’s often don’t have enough of. Requip XL comes as a tablet that releases the medicine slowly throughout the day, so it keeps working longer. It can be taken by itself or along with other medicines to help manage Parkinson’s symptoms.

Requip XL is taken by mouth once daily, with or without food. The initial dosage for adults is 2 mg for the first 1 to 2 weeks. The dosage may then be increased by 2 mg per day at weekly or longer intervals if needed, without exceeding a maximum of 24 mg per day. Requip XL tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. Always follow the directions of your healthcare provider while taking Requip XL.
The active ingredient in Requip XL is Ropinirole.
Avoid taking this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction, including urticaria or angioedema, to Ropinirole.
Before taking Requip XL, you may want to consult a healthcare provider about the following:
Any existing health conditions
Any allergies
A list of all medications you are currently taking
Whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Some people taking Requip XL have suddenly fallen asleep during activities like driving, even without feeling drowsy beforehand. This can happen after weeks or even months on the medication.
Requip XL can cause a drop in blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly. This might make you feel dizzy or even faint. The risk is higher during the first few weeks or if you have heart problems.
This medication may cause hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't there), especially in older adults. Some people may also experience confusion, paranoia, or unusual behavior like gambling or spending too much money.
Requip XL may cause or worsen involuntary movements (dyskinesia), especially if you’re also taking levodopa. Don’t stop the medication suddenly—this could lead to serious symptoms like confusion, fever, or muscle stiffness. Always talk to your doctor before stopping or changing your dose.
Rarely, Requip XL may be linked to changes in vision, lung or heart issues, or unusual urges like overeating or increased sexual urges. Let your doctor know if you notice any of these. People with serious heart or lung conditions should use caution.
Common side effects of Requip XL include sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache, and increased sweating. Some people may also experience hallucinations, stomach discomfort, or a sudden drop in blood pressure. Others report fatigue, leg swelling, constipation, or even falling asleep during normal activities like driving. These effects may be more likely when starting the medication or increasing the dose.
Requip XL may also lead to serious side effects. These include fainting, psychotic-like symptoms, unusual urges (like gambling or compulsive spending), and changes in heart rate or blood pressure. Some people may develop uncontrolled body movements or withdrawal symptoms if the medication is stopped suddenly. Talk to your healthcare provider if you notice any sudden behavior changes or troubling symptoms.
