What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Proventil HFA is a prescription asthma rescue inhaler used for fast-acting asthma relief when an attack occurs. Albuterol is a bronchodilator and it works to relax muscles around the airway into the lungs so that it is expanded and the person experiences much less shortness of breath and wheezing. This medication is administered at the first sign of an asthma attack starting, and asthma rescue inhalers are not used regularly like asthma maintenance inhalers. Proventil HFA may also be used to treat exercise-induced asthma.

You can buy Proventil HFA with a prescription, and your best price on it will be when you order medication online from Canada Drugs Direct.

Directions

Shake the canister well before using. See your prescription for information on how to test spray the inhaler if you are using a canister for the first time or if you have not used it for 2 weeks or more. Spray testing should also be done if the inhaler has been dropped. Seeing a fine mist is a sign that the inhaler is working properly.

Inhale this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, and standard inhalation guidelines are one / two inhalations every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

If two inhalations are prescribed, wait at least 1 minute between them.

If you are using other inhalers at the same time, wait at least 1 minute between the use of each medication.

Using a spacer device with this medication is recommended. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Exercise-induced asthma: inhale as directed by your doctor, usually 2 puffs 15 to 30 minutes before exercise.
