What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Pregnyl is a prescription fertility treatment medication for women and is a common step for women beginning IVF treatments as part of assisted reproduction. Pregnyl supports the normal development of an egg in the ovary and stimulates egg release during ovulation to improve chances of conception. Pregnyl is most often prescribed for treating infertility in women, but it may also be indicated for hypogonadism in men. It is self-administered as an injection, and your Pregnyl injection dosage can only being administered at certain intramuscular sites.

You can buy Pregnyl injection with a prescription at most pharmacies, and your best price on Pregnyl will be with ordering medication online from Canada Drugs Direct.

Directions

An individual’s Pregnyl injection dosage may vary considerably between those for other women. Your fertility doctor will establish the Pregnyl injection dosage that is best for you, but standard guidelines for dosage for women or men beginning to use this medication are:

For fertility treatment – one injected dose after completing menotropins treatment.

For hypogonadism – 3 injections per week, or otherwise directed by your doctor.

For subcutaneous injection:

  1. Cleanse skin of the injection site with an alcohol wipe and allow to dry.
  2. Hold syringe in your dominant hand between thumb and finger and use opposite hand to pinch the skin at the selected site.
  3. Insert the entire needle (up to the hub of the syringe) at a 90° or a 45° angle in one swift motion and push the plunger down slowly and carefully.
  4. After injection, pull needle out cleanly and quickly and apply pressure at the injection site with a sterile gauze pad if there is blood.

For intramuscular injection:

  1. Cleanse skin of the injection site with an alcohol wipe and allow to dry.
  2. Understand that only an intramuscular needle (usually 1 ½ ") can be used for this type of injection.
  3. Hold syringe in your dominant hand between thumb and finger and use opposite hand to firmly stretch skin at selected injection site.
  4. Insert the entire needle (up to the hub of the syringe) at a 90° angle into the stretched skin area in one swift motion.
  5. Check the injection by slowly pulling back on the plunger and looking for blood in the syringe. (This is rare). You may feel slight resistance or see a small bubble and that’s normal. If blood is not seen in the syringe, the needle is inserted properly. If blood does appear in the syringe, DO NOT inject the medication. Withdraw the needle, cover the site with a gauze pad, and apply pressure. Discard the syringe into proper Sharps container.
  6. Once confirmed injection is made properly, push the plunger slowly and steadily to complete it.
  7. Pull syringe out in a quick motion.
