What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Otixal is a prescription ear drop medication combining ciprofloxacin and fluocinolone. These ear drops are designed to treat various ear conditions, providing a dual-action approach to address infections and inflammation within the ear.

Otixal is indicated for treating acute otitis media (ear infection) in pediatric patients six months and older. It is effective at killing the specific types of bacteria that are responsible for causing ear infections.

Directions

Otixal is supplied in single-use vials. To administer, tilt the head to the side and instill the contents of one vial into the ear. Pump the small cartilage in front of the ear canal four times to help the medication penetrate the ear. Keep the head tilted to the side for one minute with medication in the ear.

Use the number of vials prescribed by the doctor each day. Do not stop taking it before finishing the full course.

Otixal ear drops should be used as directed by your healthcare provider. Follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment. If you have any concerns or questions, consult your doctor.

Tell your doctor if symptoms do not improve after seven days of treatment.
