Orudis (Ketoprofen)

Description

Orudis (Ketoprofen) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat mild to moderate pain and inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like menstrual cramps, arthritis, and other types of joint pain. Ketoprofen works by blocking substances in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and fever. It provides relief but does not cure underlying conditions.

Directions

Take Orudis exactly as your healthcare provider prescribes. It’s typically administered as 25 to 75 mg multiple times per day. The exact dosage will depend on the condition being treated. You can take this medication with or without food.

Contraindications

Avoid taking or using this medication if:

• Monitor your blood pressure regularly since Orudis can cause or aggravate hypertension.
• Orudis can lead to fluid retention and swelling; if you experience such symptoms, contact your doctor.
• Watch for signs of stomach ulcers or bleeding, such as severe stomach pain or black, tarry stools, and seek immediate medical help if they occur.
• Stop using Orudis and seek medical help immediately if you notice any rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
• Avoid using Orudis during pregnancy, especially in the later stages, to prevent risk to your unborn child.
• If you have liver issues, Orudis should be used under strict medical supervision, with frequent liver function tests.
• Orudis can mask the symptoms of infections; if you feel unusually unwell, consult your doctor promptly.
• Regular kidney function tests are recommended if you are taking Orudis, especially if you are elderly or have pre-existing kidney conditions.
• If you experience dizziness or drowsiness while taking Orudis, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.
• If you are trying to conceive and encountering difficulties, discuss the potential impact of Orudis on fertility with your doctor.
• Be alert for severe allergic reactions like difficulty breathing or facial swelling while using Orudis, and seek emergency medical care if these occur.

Side Effects

Orudis is most often associated with gastrointestinal issues, such as indigestion, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea, reflecting the typical profile of NSAID-related side effects. Users may also experience headaches or general fatigue as common adverse effects.

On the more severe side, Orudis can cause stomach ulcers or bleeding, which are rare but more likely in prolonged use or in older adults. Serious heart-related issues, liver abnormalities, and severe allergic reactions can also occur. These might present as swelling, intense stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or changes in urination patterns. Immediate medical care is key if any of these serious conditions appear.
