Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
One-Alpha is an oral or injectable formulation of alfacalcidol, a vitamin D analog used in the management of conditions related to impaired calcium metabolism. It is indicated for the treatment of renal osteodystrophy, hypocalcemia, rickets, osteomalacia, and secondary hyperparathyroidism, particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Alfacalcidol is converted in the liver to calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3), the active form of vitamin D, thereby bypassing the need for renal 1-alpha hydroxylation. This makes One-Alpha especially useful in patients with renal insufficiency.

Dosage should be individualized based on serum calcium, phosphate, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels.

One-Alpha is contraindicated in patients with:
Use with caution in patients predisposed to hypercalcemia, such as those with sarcoidosis or certain malignancies. Frequent monitoring is critical, particularly during initiation or dose adjustment. Concomitant use with calcium supplements, thiazide diuretics, or high-phosphate diets increases the risk of calcium-phosphate imbalance. Avoid use in patients with nephrolithiasis or significant cardiovascular calcification. Ensure adequate hydration to reduce the risk of hypercalcemia-related renal complications.
