What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Nyvepria uses:

Nyvepria (pegfilgrastim-apgf) aids your body’s ability to produce more white blood cells known as neutrophils, which are important for helping your body fight infections.

Nyvepria is administered as an injection underneath the skin. It comes in 6 mg/0.6 mL single-dose prefilled syringes.

Directions

Your doctor will decide on your treatment regimen. You or your caregiver should receive training on the proper preparation, administration, and disposal of Nyvepria.

Nyvepria is injected in the thigh, abdomen, upper outer area of the buttocks, or outer area of the upper arm. Let your doctor or pharmacist know about any questions or concerns you may have.

You may also refer to the medication guide that accompanies your prescription for further instructions for use.

Never share needles or syringes with others.

Storage:

Store Nyvepria in the original container and out of light at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F). You should not freeze or shake the medication. If the medication has frozen, allow the prefilled syringe to thaw in the refrigerator before you use it.

Take Nyvepria out of the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to using it so it can reach room temperature. Appropriately throw Nyvepria away if it has been left at room temperature for more than 15 days.
