What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Directions

The instructions that come with your NuvaRing prescription should be followed. Read the information that comes with your prescription. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about NuvaRing.

NuvaRing is made of a polymer containing 11.7 mg of etonogestrel and 2.7 mg of ethinyl estradiol, delivering about 0.12 mg of etonogestrel and 0.015 mg of ethinyl estradiol per day.

First, pick a comfortable position for the insertion of the NuvaRing. Compress the ring and insert it into the vagina. You may use the applicator for NuvaRing if you wish. Keep the ring in place for three weeks. Take it out at the start of the fourth week and keep it out for one week. After you take it out, place it in a foil pouch and dispose of it appropriately. Keep it out of reach from children and animals. Avoid flushing the ring in the toilet. Insert a new ring one week after the last ring was taken out, regardless of menstrual bleeding.
