Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Natacyn (natamycin ophthalmic suspension, 5%) is a topical antifungal ophthalmic agent indicated for the treatment of fungal blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis caused by susceptible organisms, including Fusarium, Aspergillus, and Candida species. Natamycin is a polyene antifungal that binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, increasing membrane permeability and leading to cell death. It is the only FDA-approved topical ophthalmic antifungal and is commonly used in the management of fungal eye infections, particularly filamentous fungal keratitis.

Natacyn is for external ophthalmic use only. It is not effective for deep stromal or intraocular fungal infections. Use with caution in patients with delayed corneal healing or those undergoing long-term topical steroid therapy, which can mask infection progression. If there is no improvement within 7–10 days, reevaluate the diagnosis. Contact lenses should be avoided during treatment due to the risk of delayed healing and possible preservative interactions.
