What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Myfembree is prescribed to manage heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine fibroids and moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis in postmenopausal women.

Myfembree is available in tablets that contain relugolix 40 mg, estradiol 1 mg, and norethindrone acetate 0.5 mg.

Directions

Myfembree should be taken as your doctor has directed.The information accompanying your prescription should be read carefully. Any questions or concerns may be referred to your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose is to take one tablet by mouth one time a day.

Myfembree tablets should be stored between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F) and away from children.

Ingredients

The active ingredients in Myfrembree include Relugolix (GnRH receptor antagonist), estradiol (estrogen), and norethindrone acetate (progestin). Hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, iron oxide yellow, lactose monohydrate, mannitol, magnesium stearate, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide, and triacetin are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

Myfembree should be avoided in patients who have any of the following:

  • High risk of blood clots or blood clotting disorders
  • Are pregnant
  • Osteoporosis
  • Have or have had breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers
  • Liver impairment or disease
  • Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Allergy to any of Myfembree’s ingredients or excipients

Cautions

Myfembree has the following FDA Boxed Warning:

  • The risk of blood clotting problems, especially in high-risk women, is increased by estrogen and progestin combinations.
  • Women who have or have had blood clotting disorders, women who are older than 35 years of age and smoke, and women with uncontrolled high blood pressure should not take Myfembree.
  • Before you begin taking Myfembree, inform your doctor of:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health problems
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Myfembree may cause:
    • blood clotting or vision disorders
    • potentially irreversible bone density loss
    • Suicidal ideation and mood problems. Immediately seek emergency care if you experience new or worsening depression, anxiety, or other mood changes.
    • Liver damage
    • Increased blood pressure. Myfembree is not recommended for women who have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
    • Menstrual changes. Myfrembree may delay the ability to recognize pregnancy; therefore, non-hormonal birth control is recommended during treatment and for one week after discontinuation of Myfembree.
    • Early pregnancy loss can occur. Non-hormonal birth control is recommended during treatment.
    • Uterine fibroid prolapse or expulsion. Immediately seek emergency care right away if you experience severe uterine bleeding.
    • Allergic reaction. If this occurs, stop Myfembree.

Side Effects

Myfembree side effects include but are not limited to hot flashes, uterine bleeding, hair loss, decreased sex drive, headache, mood changes, nausea, toothache, back pain, joint pain, fatigue, and dizziness. Inform your doctor right away if you have bothersome or persistent side effects.
