What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

LYUMJEV (insulin aspart-aabc) is a prescription insulin product that can be used to treat people with diabetes mellitus.

LYUMJEV contains a rapid-acting insulin that is given at mealtime. It can be administered between one and three times daily, depending on the needs of the patient.

Insulin is produced in the pancreas, but people with diabetes cannot produce enough to meet their needs. Consequently, their blood sugar is often higher than normal, which can damage the kidneys, eyes, and toes.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lyumjev

Is Lyumjev faster than Fiasp?

Yes. Lyumjev has been shown to act faster than Fiasp, with a quicker onset and similar or slightly better post-meal glucose control in some patients.

Can Lyumjev be used in an insulin pump?

Yes. Lyumjev is approved for insulin pump use, but consult your pump manufacturer and doctor for compatibility and infusion site considerations.

Can I take Lyumjev without eating right away?

No. Because it works rapidly, taking Lyumjev without food can cause hypoglycemia. Only use at the start of or during meals.

How does Lyumjev help control A1c?

By controlling post-meal glucose spikes, Lyumjev helps reduce overall blood sugar levels, contributing to a lower A1c.

Is Lyumjev available in multiple formats?

Yes. Lyumjev comes in:

KwikPen (prefilled pen)
Cartridges for pen devices
Vials for syringes or pumps

Can I use Lyumjev during pregnancy?

Lyumjev may be used during pregnancy, but only under close medical supervision. Insulin needs often change throughout pregnancy.

What happens if I miss a Lyumjev dose with a meal?

If you forgot to inject and the meal is already over, do not take Lyumjev. Instead, consult your provider and monitor your blood sugar closely.

Does Lyumjev cause more injection site reactions?

Some users report mild redness or stinging at injection sites due to its additives (citrate, treprostinil), but this is usually temporary.

Can Lyumjev be used with oral diabetes medications?

Yes. In type 2 diabetes, Lyumjev may be used along with oral meds or GLP-1 receptor agonists when mealtime control is needed.

How long after injection does Lyumjev remain active?

Lyumjev remains active for approximately 4 to 5 hours, covering most post-meal glucose increases.
