What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Lotemax SM should only be used in the eye. It is a sterile preserved gel.

You should turn the closed bottle upside down and shake once to fill the tip before placing the gel into the eye(s).

Beginning the day after surgery, place one drop into the affected eye(s) three times a day for 14 days. 

Ingredients

There is 3.8 mg of Loteprednol Etabonate in each gram of gel. 

Contraindications

If you have a viral eye disease or a bacterial or fungal eye infection, avoid using Lotemax SM.

Cautions

  • Before you begin using Lotemax SM eye gel, let your doctor know:
    • If you have any allergies
    • About all medications you may take, including other eye drops or eye gels
    • If you have any medical conditions
    • If you are currently pregnant or plan to become pregnant
    • If you are currently breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • Your risk for glaucoma or other vision problems can be increased by using Lotemax SM for a long time. If you use Lotemax SM for more than 10 days, your intraocular pressure should be checked.
  • Inform your doctor if you have cataracts.
  • Prolonged healing time may result from using Lotemax SM. The risk for bleb formation after cataract surgery can be increased by Lotemax SM. 
  • The risk for secondary eye infections can be increased by using Lotemax SM for a long time. It can mask or worsen active purulent infections.
  • The use of Lotemax SM for an extended period of time can extend the course of or worsen the symptoms of viral eye infections, including herpes simplex.
  • Your risk for fungal eye infections can be increased by using Lotemax SM for a long time. 
  • When your eyes are inflamed or irritated, do not wear contact lenses.

Side Effects

Blurry vision, light sensitivity, eye swelling, or eye redness are the most common side effects of Lotemax SM. 

Immediately tell your doctor if you experience troublesome or continuous side effects.
