Description

Linzess is a guanylate cyclase C agonist indicated in adults for the treatment of Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).

Directions

IBS-C - Take 290mcg orally once daily. CIC - Take 145mcg orally once daily. Take on a empty stomach, at least 30 minutes prior to the first meal of the day.

For elderly patients, although no dose adjustment is required the treatment should be carefully monitored and periodically re-assessed Linzess is contraindicated for patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction. Should prolonged (e.g. more than 1 week) or severe diarrhoea occur, medical advice should be sought and temporary discontinuation of linaclotide until diarrhoea episode is resolved may be considered.
