What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Description

LEXIVA is a prescription medication that treated HIV infection. It should be used in combination with other antivirals in the treatment of HIV infection.

LEXIVA is an HIV protease inhibitor. It works by blocking the function of a critical protein HIV-1 protease. By blocking protease, LEXIVA prevents HIV viral particles from replicating.

Directions

Take each LEXIVA dosage with or without food.

Take LEXIVA exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The dose varies greatly depending on different patient factors:

  • Hepatic impairment: Adjusted based on directions from the prescriber
  • Treatment-naive: LEXIVA 1400 mg by mouth twice daily plus ritonavir
  • Pediatric (2 to 18 years old): Calculate based on body weight
  • Protease Inhibitor-experienced adults: LEXIVA 700 mg twice daily plus ritonavir 100 mg twice daily

The doctor must carefully monitor treatment while taking LEXICA. The dose should not be skipped or changed without directions from the doctor.

Cautions

LEXIVA can cause serious skin conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome. 

Tell your doctor if you have a history of sulfonamide allergy, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C.

While taking LEXIVA, some people develop metabolic disorders like diabetes mellitus, redistribution of body fat, and high cholesterol.

LEXIVA may increase the risk of anemia or bleeding in people with hemophilia.
