Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Levemir is not to be used in insulin infusion pumps. Levemir should not be diluted or mixed with any other insulin preparations.
Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect of all insulin therapies, including Levemir. Other adverse events commonly associated with insulin therapy may include injection site reactions such as lipodystrophy, redness, pain, itching, hives, swelling, and inflammation.
Can I take Levemir at night?
Yes. Levemir can be taken at night or in the morning. The key is to stay consistent with timing, whether you take it once or twice daily.
Is Levemir used in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes?
Yes. It is used:
In type 1 diabetes: with a rapid-acting insulin
In type 2 diabetes: as basal insulin alone or with oral medications
Can I use Levemir during pregnancy?
Yes. Levemir is classified as safe in pregnancy and may be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Levemir?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s close to your next dose. Do not double-dose. If unsure, contact your provider.
How is Levemir different from Lantus or Tresiba?
Levemir: Lasts up to 24 hours, may require twice-daily dosing
Lantus: Typically once daily, lasts ~24 hours
Tresiba: Lasts over 42 hours, most flexible schedule
Levemir has a shorter duration than Tresiba or Lantus.
Can Levemir cause weight gain?
Yes, like all insulins, but Levemir is associated with slightly less weight gain than some others. Healthy eating and exercise are still important.
Does Levemir have a peak?
Levemir has a relatively flat profile, but it may have a slight peak around 6–8 hours after injection, especially at lower doses.
Can I reuse Levemir pen needles?
No. Reusing needles increases the risk of infection, inaccurate dosing, and lipodystrophy. Always use a new needle with each injection.
What affects how Levemir works?
Factors include:
Injection site
Physical activity
Body weight
Kidney/liver function
Can I travel with Levemir?
Yes. Carry it in your hand luggage in a cool case, along with your prescription and a doctor’s note. Never freeze it or expose it to high heat.
