Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Lescol (Fluvastatin) is a statin medication that helps lower cholesterol levels in the blood, specifically low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol. By blocking an enzyme involved in cholesterol production, it can help manage high cholesterol and prevent heart-related conditions. Lescol is used to support cardiovascular health and may reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes. It’s often prescribed along with healthy lifestyle changes, such as eating a low-fat diet, exercising regularly, and managing your weight.

Fluvastatin is taken by mouth to manage cholesterol levels. The dosage typically starts at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Some people may require higher doses, up to 80 mg per day, which can be divided into 40 mg twice daily. It's important not to break, crush, or chew the tablets or capsules. Children aged 10 to 16 might start with a 20 mg dose daily in the evening. Whether you take it with food or without, it’s important to stay consistent.
The active ingredient in Lescol is Fluvastatin.

Lescol may cause serious muscle problems, including a rare condition called rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to kidney damage. Let your doctor know right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness—especially if you also feel tired or have a fever.
Lescol may raise liver enzyme levels. In rare cases, it can cause serious liver damage. Liver tests should be done before starting treatment and if you notice symptoms like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or pain in the upper right belly.
Lescol can slightly increase blood sugar levels and may affect hormone levels in some people. This might be more noticeable in those with conditions related to blood sugar or hormone balance.
People with active liver disease or unexplained liver test changes should not take Lescol. It should also be used carefully in people who drink heavily or have a history of liver problems.
Although very rare, high doses of Lescol have caused nervous system effects in animal studies, like balance problems or vision changes. These effects haven’t been seen in long-term studies in people, but you should still tell your doctor if you notice anything unusual.
Common side effects of Lescol include headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, muscle pain, sinus infection, and trouble sleeping. These effects are usually mild and may improve over time. Some people have also reported memory loss or confusion. If any side effects bother you or don’t go away, talk to your doctor.
More serious side effects may include muscle or liver problems. Call your healthcare provider right away if you notice unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness—especially if you also have a fever. Your doctor may check your liver with blood tests before and during treatment. Signs of liver problems can include tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, yellowing skin, or upper belly pain.
