What is a Generic Drug?

Katerzia (Amlodipine) is intended to treat:

  • High blood pressure in adults and children over 6 years old 
  • Coronary artery disease
    • Chronic Stable Angina
    • Vasospastic Angina
    • Angiographically Documented Coronary Artery Disease in patients who are not experiencing heart failure or an ejection fraction less than 40%

Katerzia (Amlodipine) comes in a 1 mg/mL oral suspension. 

Measure out your dose in milliliters using a measuring tool. Follow your prescription label's instructions. 

5 mg by mouth once daily is the recommended starting dose in adults. Do not take more than 10 mg once daily. For small or elderly patients or patients who have liver problems, the starting dose may be 2.5 mg by mouth once daily.

2.5 mg to 5 mg by mouth once daily is the recommended starting dose in pediatric patients. 

Ingredients

Amlodipine Benzoate, a calcium channel blocker, is the active ingredient in Katerzia. 

Contraindications

Avoid taking Katerzia if you have any allergy to amlodipine or other calcium channel blockers.

Cautions

  • Before you begin taking Katerzia, tell your doctor:
    • If you have any allergies
    • About any medications you may take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines
    • If you have any medical conditions
    • If you are currently pregnant or plan to become pregnant
    • If you are currently breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • Low blood pressure can be caused by Katerzia.
  • Katerzia can cause worsening chest pain. It can also cause an acute heart attack after starting or increasing the dose of Katerzia, especially in patients who have severe obstructive coronary artery disease.
  • Store Katerzia in the refrigerator. Do not store it in the freezer.

Side Effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea are common side effects of Katerzia.

Immediately talk to your doctor if you experience bothersome or continuous side effects.
