Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
ISOPTO CARPINE (pilocarpine) is a prescription eye drop medication that can treat different types of eye conditions. It is usually prescribed by the eye doctor. ISOPTO CARPINE can be used for the following:
ISOPTO CARPINE is a direct-acting cholinergic parasympathomimetic that stimulates muscarinic receptors and smooth muscle. The iris and secretory glands are affected by this medication.
ISOPTO CARPINE contacts (or tightens) the ciliary muscle, which opens parts of the eye that allow aqueous humor to flow out, reducing the pressure inside.
Instill one drop into the affected eyes(s) as directed by your healthcare provider.
The active ingredient in ISOPTO CARPINE is pilocarpine.
Pediatric patients with congenital glaucoma should use caution when using ISOTPO CARPINE drops. The medication has been known to increase the pressure of the eye to dangerous levels.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of iritis.
The doctor should perform a thorough examination of the retina with fundoscopy prior to prescribing ISOPTO CARPINE. In rare cases, the drug can cause detachment of the retina.
Use caution when driving or operating machinery at night. ISOPTO CARPINE can make it harder to see in the dark.
Some of the common ISOPTO CARPINE side effects include:
