Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Intrarosa is a steroid medicine that helps women who have moderate to severe pain during sex, a problem called dyspareunia, which often happens after menopause. Prasterone works by being converted in the body to estrogen and androgen, hormones that help rebuild and keep the vaginal tissue healthy. Healthcare providers usually recommend Intrarosa for women who have this pain after menopause and want relief without taking hormones that affect the whole body.

The most common side effect reported with Intrarosa is vaginal discharge. In clinical trials, around 6% of women using Intrarosa for 12 weeks experienced this side effect, compared to around 4% of women taking a placebo. In a longer 52-week study, the rate of vaginal discharge increased to around 14% of participants. These effects were generally mild and did not lead to treatment discontinuation for most women.
Another side effect seen in the longer trial was abnormal Pap smear results, which occurred in about 2% of women. These included cases of atypical cervical cells and one instance of a low-grade lesion. Always discuss any unusual symptoms or concerns with a healthcare provider.
