What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Imvexxy should be used as your doctor has prescribed.

The recommended Imvexxy dosage is one insert intravaginally once daily for two weeks, then one insert two times a week.

Store Imvexxy inserts between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F); keep away from children.

Ingredients

Estradiol is the active ingredient in Imvexxy.

Ammonium hydroxide, ethanol, ethyl acetate, ethylene glycol palmitostearate, FD&C Red #40, gelatin, glycerin, isopropyl alcohol, lecithin, medium chain triglycerides, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol stearates, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, propylene glycol, purified water, sorbitol-sorbitan solution, and titanium dioxide are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Imvexxy should not be used in patients with any of the following:

  • Irregular vaginal bleeding that is not diagnosed
  • Current or history of breast cancer
  • Cancer that is estrogen-dependent
  • Current or history of blood clots
  • Current or history of stroke, heart attack, or other arterial thromboembolic conditions
  • Allergic reactions, angioedema, or anaphylactic reactions to Imvexxy
  • Liver issues or disease
  • Protein C, protein S, antithrombin deficiency, or other known blood clotting disorders

Cautions

  • Imvexxy contains the following FDA Boxed Warning:
  • Estrogen-alone
  • Increased risk of endometrial cancer in women with a uterus who receives estrogens
  • The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) estrogen-alone substudy reported increased risks of stroke and blood clots
  • The WHI Memory Study estrogen-alone ancillary study (WHIMS) demonstrated an increased risk of probable dementia in postmenopausal women who were 65+ years old
  • Estrogen should not be used alone for the prevention of dementia or cardiovascular disease
  • Estrogen plus progestin
  • The WHI estrogen plus progestin substudy reported increased risks of stroke, blood clots, and heart attack
  • The WHI estrogen plus progestin substudy reported increased risks of invasive breast cancer
  • The WHIMS estrogen plus progestin ancillary study of WHI reported an increased risk of probable dementia in postmenopausal women who were 65+ years old
  • Estrogen plus progestin should not be used for the prevention of dementia or cardiovascular disease
  • Before you begin using Imvexxy, discuss the following with your doctor:
    • All the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and supplements
    • Any allergies you have
    • Any current health problems you have
    • Your past medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Imvexxy contains the following warnings and precautions:
    • Elevated risk of gallbladder disease
    • Elevated calcium levels in the blood, loss of vision, severely high triglyceride levels in the blood, or cholestatic jaundice; Imvexxy should be discontinued if any these occur
    • Thyroid issues

Side Effects

The most common Imvexxy side effect is headache; however, other side effects may also occur.
