What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Directions

To use the eye drops correctly, one drop of Ilevro 0.3% should be applied to the affected eye starting one day before the surgery, continuing on the day of the surgery, and throughout the first two weeks of the postoperative period. Additionally, an extra drop should be administered 30 to 120 minutes prior to the surgery.

When applying the eye drops, ensure your hands are clean and avoid touching the applicator tip to any surface, including the eye itself, to prevent contamination. Tilt your head back, gently pull down your lower eyelid, and look upward. Place the prescribed number of drops into the lower eyelid and keep your eyes closed for one to two minutes. Applying gentle pressure to the inner corner of the eye during this time can help the medication absorb better.

It is essential to follow the recommended dosage and not use the eye drops for more than two weeks, as prolonged use may increase the risk of serious side effects. If you experience any persistent or worsening symptoms, consult your doctor.

Ingredients

Ilevro Eye Drops contain the active ingredient nepafenac.

Contraindications

Avoid taking or using Ilevro Eye Drops if you have a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to Nepafenac, other NSAIDs, or any ingredient in the eye drops.

Cautions

  • Before using Ilevro Eye Drops, notify your doctor about:
    • Any medications you take, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
    • Existing medical conditions such as diabetes, dry eye syndrome, arthritis, or a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder like hemophilia.
    • Upcoming surgeries or procedures, as the use of Ilevro might affect the healing process or interact with other medications used during surgery.
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Extended use of Ilevro may lead to severe corneal issues, such as thinning or even perforation of the cornea. If you have conditions like diabetes or dry eyes, use caution.
  • Do not use the drops while wearing contact lenses, as the preservatives in the eye drops may cause lens damage or discomfort. Talk to your healthcare expert to find out when you can safely put them back in.
  • Taking Ilevro for longer than two weeks after surgery or more than a day before going into surgery might increase the likelihood of complications with the cornea.
  • Exercise caution with Ilevro if you're prone to bleeding or are on medications that could prolong bleeding. The eye drop can make you more susceptible to bleeding issues.
  • If you're also using other topical treatments like corticosteroids, know that Ilevro could slow down the healing process. Always consult your doctor for regular check-ups while using this medication.
  • Monitor your eye conditions and notify your doctor if you experience any changes or worsening symptoms.

Side Effects

Ilevro may cause a range of side effects. Common side effects include blurred or hazy vision, decreased vision, the sensation of having something in the eye, a sticky feeling in the eye, and increased sensitivity to light. Users may experience watery eyes, crusting, or drainage of the eyes, as well as puffy eyelids.

In some cases, more serious side effects can occur. These may involve delayed healing, increased bleeding time, and hypersensitivity reactions. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience serious side effects or if your symptoms worsen while using Ilevro Eye Drops.
