Take Hygroton as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
It is generally recommended to take 12.5 mg to 50 mg orally one time a day or every other day. Hygroton should be taken with breakfast and a full glass of water. Depending upon your response and tolerance to the medication, your dose may be adjusted.
The active ingredient contained in Hygroton is chlorthalidone.
Patients who are allergic to Hygroton or to any of its ingredients or to a similar medication (i.e., thiazide diuretics, sulfa medications) should not take the medication.
Patients who have severe liver or kidney problems, low potassium or sodium levels in the blood, high calcium levels in the blood, have or have had gout, or high blood pressure during pregnancy should not take Hygroton.
Some, but not all, side effects associated with Hygroton include dizziness, lightheadedness, loss of appetite, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, blurred vision, vision problems, and sexual dysfunction.
