What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. GenVisc 850 comes in 3 mL pre-filled syringes that are for single use only. The syringe should be used immediately after opening the packaging. The contents of the syringe are injected into the intra-articular space of the knee joint. Discard any remainder of GenVisc 850.

Ingredients

In each 3 mL prefilled syringe, there is 25 mg of sodium hyaluronate. 

Contraindications

Avoid using GenVisc 850 if you are allergic to sodium hyaluronate or any other ingredient in GenVisc 850.

Avoid using GenVisc 850 if you have a skin disease or infection at or near the site of injection. 

Cautions

  • Before you begin using GenVisc 850, inform your doctor of:
    • Any allergies you may have
    • Any medications you may take. These include prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements.
    • Any medical conditions you may have
    • Pregnancy or plans to become pregnant
    • Breastfeeding or plans to breastfeed
  • GenVisc 850 should be administered using a strict and aseptic technique.
  • GenVisc 850 should not be used with disinfectants that contain quaternary ammonium salts for the skin. This may lead to the precipitation of sodium hyaluronate.
  • Pain and/or swelling of the joint may occur after the injection of GenVisc 850.
  • Avoid over exerting yourself for at least 48 hours of injecting GenVisc 850.
  • GenVisc 850 should be stored away from light. Store at temperatures below 86°F (30° C). Do not keep it in the freezer.

Side Effects

GenVisc 850 side effects may include the following: an allergic reaction, pain or discomfort at the injection site, bleeding at the injection site, joint pain, and joint stiffness.

Immediately tell your doctor if you experience troublesome or persistent side effects.
