What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

The instructions that come with your Gemtesa prescription should be followed. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about your prescription.

Gemtesa comes as a 75 mg tablet. The usual dose is to take one tablet orally once daily with water. For patients who have trouble swallowing tablets whole, crushing the tablet and mixing it with applesauce is an alternative. 

Ingredients

Vibegron, a beta-3 adrenergic agonist, is the active ingredient contained in Gemtesa.

Contraindications

You should not take Gemtesa if you have any allergy to vibegron or any of the other ingredients or excipients contained in Gemtesa.

Cautions

  • Before beginning treatment with Gemtesa, tell your doctor:
    • If you take any medications, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal supplements. If you are taking digoxin, your digoxin levels should be monitored before starting Gemtesa.
    • If you have any allergies
    • If you have any medical conditions
    • If you are currently pregnant or plan to become pregnant
    • If you are currently breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed 
  • Urinary retention can be caused by Gemesa. Your risk may be increased if you have bladder outlet obstruction or if you are taking muscarinic antagonists for overactive bladder. If you are unsure whether or not you are taking a muscarinic antagonist, ask your doctor.
  • If you have end-stage kidney disease or severe liver problems, treatment with Gemtesa is not recommended.

Side Effects

As with any medication, Gemtesa can cause side effects. The most common side effects include diarrhea, headache, nausea, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, and urinary tract infection; however, these are not all the possible side effects that may occur with Gemtesa. Immediately inform your doctor if you develop bothersome or persistent side effects.
